[안내] 비트코인 포크 가능성과 이에따른 코빗 대응책에 관한 안내

현재 비트코인 업계에서는 블록체인의 블록 크기의 제한된 용량 문제를 해결하기 위해 BIP148 (일명 User Activated Soft Fork), Segwit2x라 불리는 두 가지 방안을 제안한 상태입니다. 두 방안 모두 Segwit 활성화를 지원 하는 입장 입니다.

8월 1일 이전에 Segwit이 활성화 될 경우, 비트코인 체인은 기존처럼 한 체인을 유지하게 됩니다. 반면 8월 1일 이전에 Segwit이 활성화되지 않을 경우에는 비트코인 체인이 두 갈래로 분리될 가능성이 있으며 이 경우에 코빗에서는 8월 1일 이전 비트코인 입/출금 기능을 중지할 예정입니다. 추후 한 체인이 안정화 되었다고 판단 되었을 경우에 입/출금 기능을 재개할 것입니다.

또한 두 개의 비트코인 체인이 모두 장기적으로 생존할 가능성이 있다고 판단될 경우에는 두 개 체인을 모두 지원할지, 혹은 독보적인 한 체인만 지원할 지에 대하여 검토 후 공지 드리도록 하겠습니다. 추후 상세 일정이 공지 되는대로, 회원님들께 신속히 안내 드리도록 하겠습니다.

Currently, there are two proposals to address the block size limitation in Bitcoin; they are known as BIP148 (or User Activated Soft Fork - UASF) and Segwit2x. Both are proposing to activate the mechanism known as Segwit.

If Segwit becomes activated before August 1st, then this is the best case scenario and there will be no fork in the blockchain. However, if Segwit is not activated before August 1st, then there is a possibility Bitcoin may split into two chains. If this looks like it will happen, then before August 1st, we will halt all Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals until some period after August 1st. If one clear winning chain emerges, we will resume Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals then.

However, if this is not the case then we will look into whether it is appropriate to support both chains. We will be monitoring the situation closely in the coming weeks and will know more when August 1st approaches.
